Building house blender tutorial - added two new tutorials!!!

Get it on http://blender-house.spaces.live.com

The part 1 starts with a blank scene and it finished by building the perimeter walls by tracing a blueprint image. In August I re-did the part 1 from scratch. There were problems with sound, and I thing I have managed to squeeze in a few more tricks. So both parts are fresh new - enjoy. In June I have updated it second time - adding exact knife as an alternative for Retopo.

Part 2 goes from where I have stopped in the first part, it creates doors, windows and goes a little bit about texturing and lighting and rendering.

Part 3 is deals with the interior . It covers the the questions that you had, so it goes about furniture, lighting, texturing, UV mapping, I touch composite nodes, modeling a staircase as well as camera fly through animation.

In June I added two extra tutorials: Part 4 is a short one for AO - as an alternative to the Sky Dome that we have done in part 2. I dump the lamps and make it from scratch. That one is short.

Part 5 has an ambition of reducing the render time for the animation. We go into bake render, we use different render passes or scenes and bring the scene together in Composite nodes. I had some fun with workarounds - such as fixing specular that is missing in the bake render image. Finaly we tweak OSA and Octree resolution.

I was trying to make it compreensive. If you have other suggestions that shall be in the kit, please shoot.

Cheers

Bruxy

Hmm downloading now…
Any pictures of the latest render following the turorial?

This is how far it gets:

This is the (for the moment) final model, but the tutorial would be too long to follow it all the way through:

I can see another good tutorial here.
Thanks, I later discovered the images on the rest of your site, giving me the answers.

Hey,
Are you going to do the interior too?
I know you said it would be too long if you model the 2nd picture and let this show to us, but a little bit of interior? please?:stuck_out_tongue:

Ok, I can do that. I actually enjoy doing it. I just thought nobody would be interrested in watching that and I though this one is already getting too long. Will try to squeeze something in a short one - with few shortcuts.
Can you help me and drop a note in the guestbook on my site with hints on what you’d like to see?.. anyone? Thanks.
BTW, I have re-uploaded a new version of the part 1 this morning (yesterday night). Earlier I made a short one about using the snap tool, and I forgot to add it. It is right before closing the exterior walls…

Oh well, Rome wasn’t build in one day.
You won’t get “famous” with your tutorials overnight.
There aren’t much architechtual tutorials for blender yet, so you can stirr that up.

Oh btw:
What kind of hotkey display(er) are you using (you know, that orange box in the upper right corner of the screen).

osdHotkey

Great,
Since I’m very interested in blender for architecture this tutorials will be very useful
If you have the time and will I guess it would be nice to also have a tutorial or even a small guide in text only, describing the steps between the last and the before last picture.
I also think it would be interesting if you could tells us were to find the different libraries you used
Thanks very much!
Best reagrds

Ok, will come up with something and post an update in here…in few weeks time…having some PC issues, so I’ll have no computer for some time…

Models: I have found most of the libraries on http://www.google.com/search?q=3d+models+blender and http://www.google.com/search?q=3d+models+free. Kator Legaz has quite nice site with lots of models for architecture, you will find sites such as http://www.turbosquid.com and I have also created few myself).
Cheers.
B.

What kind of computerproblems do you have?

Hi i’ve taken a ‘light view’ of the 2 videos and all I can say is WOW! Great detail! Later I will view them with more attention and make all the questions/doubts that may appear
One curiosity: in the blueprints you have a stairs, did you modeled them?If so, how did you made the curve?
Congrats once more and can wait for the next update.
Jorge

@jorge:
Yeah, well now bruxy have two fans :stuck_out_tongue:
It only takes up 1 and a half hour of your time.

Although I know most Blender stuff, I still learned some handy tricks.

Jorge, I am glad you like it!

Yes, I did. If you go to the gallery on my blender page, and download the animation, you’ll see it. Or you can get it on http://blender-house.spaces.live.com

The modelling was actually piece of cake. I had a blueprint, I know number of steps and the height of the ceiling, so I know the distance between the steps. So I traced the outline of each step from top view (same way as I did the walls), and then moved each step to the proper height from the floor. Then I connected them by extruding the bottom step up - but you do not have to do that for some open staircases. Really easy.

It would have been more diffilcut if I had to design the staircase from scratch. But you can download many blueprints (top views) of staircase from the catalogues on the net… Or there are tables, books, programs, formulas. But this is above my skills, I already had the blueprint as I said.

This looks perfect!

I’ve been thinking of making my house in Unreal engine so I could see some changes we are planning to make but I think I’ll try this.

Thanks!

Is the second picture just 3d work or it has been ‘fine tuned’ in photoshop or similar?

Straight from the renderer, no post-processing…well, except that I took the neighbor’s house, car, street and traffic sign from the third picture and pasted that in front of the rendered picture. But the house itself is not edited.
Check out the avi on the url above - that one is with no editing whatsoever.

whenever i click on the links for the video it sayspage cannot be displayed
it did this yesterday too
although it doesn’t sound like anyone else is having a problem:(

i was excited when i saw this too
what a shame

edit: sorry i had to save target as
my mistake
i can be excited once again

I just saw the animation, another great job!
The interior is so detailed. I hope you can solve your pc problems and have time and will to do an update and tell us a little about modeling the interior.
