And the following is the Opel GT story...
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Hello There!
This is my currente project, I need to model a Opel GT.
Because I'm feeling lonely I'll make this my first WIP for Blenderartist.
hehe! The thing is that I never modeled Cars... so this is gone be my first and I want it to look near to Perfect.
Its porpose is animation, so it needs to be rigged to look and fell like the real thing and be HD1080p movie ready.

After allot of reserch in the web I only found the front/side/back blueprints, and not even one picture of the Top view, so this will make things a little harder for sure.

Anyway, for today I've loaded and positioned the blueprints in the respective viewports.
To ensure that all the images matched I made 2 squares with the same mesures that the ones of the real Car and scaled the images to fit that squares.

    Highres here (1920*1200)
I'll start modeling tomorow, so I'm very open to advices I'll make this one very slow hehe
I'll try to write every days, about the same time, the daily progresses.

Good setup. I would recommend getting a top view.

    Just made the first piece

What you guys think, may I proceed to the hood!?
There's one thing that I can't tell if it's good or not, because the reference images don't show it clearely... that's how much the piece bends in the bottom... the front view doesn't help, so I just guessed, but I guess this will give problems later on

Also I don't know how much big the ventilation holes are, so I made it more or less similar to the reference photo...

J09: Yes, I would love to have the top view, but unfortunatly it seems that there isn't any available in the web

just a sec -[mops up drool on keyboard]-

Thats a kick ass start! This is going to be a great model.

As far as the hood my suggestion is: start with a string of vertices along the place were the
hood meets the windshield, and work your way forward. Just anticipate were your extra edge loops and sharp edges will be.

    cinder1:
    Thanks!
I'm a little scared because I've been mostly character designer until the current date.
Tomorrow I'll make the Hood following your suggestion.
BTW love your Venom GT (Concept Car)

If someone has an Opel GT, I would be very appreciated if you could take one Top View picture of it and post it here, thanks.

Maybe I'm behind in the times, but I just realized the Opel gt and the Saturn sky are identical.

I Think that Opel is only for Europe, in other countries like USA it's know by Saturn Sky :P

Nice start so far rogper. How are you modeling it? As one piece, multiple pieces?

    Doublez
For now I will make piece by piece. After I'll join all the parts of the frame, but I will probably keep the interiors, headlights and such seperated.

    Nice start!

I model cars slightly differently. First, make the entire shape, without details, but with edgeloops following the separate parts. Then the cutting phase, and it continues with adding details. It isn't perfect, it needs a lot of tweaking, but the result looks fine.

I'll watch this thread closely, it is already good one.

About that Top view problem you had:
You don't really need the Top view. Yes, It helps in the process but you can use the front view as well and just use a normal referance picture if you are going to detail the car.

I'd assume (ASSUME) that the bottom part of the sides would "meet" where the front and rear bottom parts start (ie imagine it was just one plane on the underside of the car that connects these two...and adjust the sides to meet that plane.

Hopefully I explained that as good as it sounded it my head lol.

!^_^ Sorry! But I'm not quite seeing what you're trying to describe... I probably also didn't wrote the question properly, my English is geting worst by the minute hehe... If it is what I think, by the pictures, it seems that for this car this is not the case... but Thanks!

    one Fix :P
