Are you speaking about #32? If yes, then sorry for misunderstanding, but I was speaking there explicitly about camera matching tool.

There will be definitively no CADtools version for 2.5.
Maybe for 2.6 if not 2.7

    I say "maybe", because:
    - I cant foresee what progress makes API till then.
At my first tests i have found there issues making the transfer impossible.
I hope they will be solved in 2.6. May be they are solved already? I haven't tried since February.

    - I cant foresee what progress makes CADtools.
My plan is to complete functionality and stability tests on 2.49 platform before I move to the next level. 2.5/2.6 platform has no relevance to current CADtools development. At this stage I am focused on prototyping new architectural sketching system and testing interactivity with standard tools. The sources of 2.49 are stable and friezed - easy debugging, because all bugs that i find, come from my code.

2.5 has many improvements and on the long term is the better solution.
Though currently I am not addicted to it - it is a monster.
    - to build it on older machine or with slow internet connection is a horror.
    - i am disappointed by new GUI style/layout: it offers weak visual feedback and wastes screen area. I hope it is only a matter of right configuration/css.
    - the best candidate to be ported to 2.6 are both Collada scripts (python) - they are extreme slim compared to the library of the new system. By the way I will fix there all architecture relevant areas.

    Any questions?

You are in a very difficult situation. You've gone very far down the blender 2.49 route but I can't see many people wanting to support this project in the future unless its ported over to 2.5.
I don't know how many people have downloaded or tried using it but the limited screenshots on the site look like a pretty horrendous layout, the normal blender UI was bad enough. You really need to show what features you have, this is where the documentation and demonstration screencasts are key. Unless you attract users who know how to use the software you won't get support.
You're in a catch-22 situation, you need to port over to 2.5 before you get support but you need support to port over to 2.5.
    Richard, thank you for comments.

Well, for longer period of time there will be CADtools version for 2.49 only.
I am not really afraid about this situation, because CADtools is a niche product, probably more interesting for users from outside Blender universe than for blenderheads. I don't think they will care much about Blender version. In ideal case i will get support from new users, so the Blender community will not be drained.
    Most important facts:
    - 2.49 and 2.6 can coexist on a machine.
    - we have very good upwards and downwards compatibility of blend files.
    - CADtools doesn't affect blend file consistancy

    I see here an inconvenience:
users switching between 2.49 and 2.6 will go mad because of different UIs.

    CADtools 0.60alpha - 2011.08.15 release is there.
many improvements, but mostly bugfixes and completion of help texts.

1- you should in your first post indicate clearly that this is not a free soft
unless there is a free version available!

2 - since beginning of this year yes 2.5 has become a lot more stable and usable
i think you can begin to port it to 2.5
2.5 API is a lot more powerfull then 2.49
but more complicated to learn so this may take some times to get use to it

wish you good luck with this project

    happy 2.6

    1. you can write me to get a free copy, must i write this explicitly there?
    2. 2.5 API is more advanced but quite different. I plan to start next try with 2.6 release.
    3. thank you

The version for 2.6x still doesn't work, sorry. No real progress here.
Though Blender's API is evolving steady - i will find a way to port it for sure.

CADtools script is under heavy development all the time. I plan to release an update this month.
Have you tried CADtools on 2.49b already?

it is a well known problem:
there is a mind-GUI incompatibility in the first 6 hours with Blender 2.49, then gets better rapidly.

Just wondering how work was coming for 2.6x ?

Thank you very much for your work on this and for any reply.

    Hi Kelly,
Good progress with DXF-importer: the 2.49b version is ready now and the 2.6x will be ready very soon.
CADtools: nothing new for 2.6x so far. I am still working on 2.49b and hope to stabilize the code for new version 0.65 in short.
After this I will make some new tests with Blender 2.65 API, but without big hopes to find a solution, because no relevant changes in API have happened lately. In should look better when the new dependency-graph and new UI-system come. 2.69?

I am very happy to announce that the new CADtools version 0.65 for Blender 2.49b is ready for release.

I have prepared a portable Windows version of Blender-2.49b-CAD-edition that works out of the box, no matter Python is installed on your system or not. link

    ~/BlenderCAD $ cd /usr/lib/
    /usr/lib $ sudo ln -s libgettextlib-0.17.so libgettextlib-0.18.1.so
    OR this (/usr/lib $ sudo ln -s libgettextlib-0.17.so libgettextlib.so
    I get
    paul@pauldesktop:/usr/lib$ sudo ln -s libgettextlib-0.17.so libgettextlib-0.18.1.so
ln: failed to create symbolic link `libgettextlib-0.18.1.so': File exists
    paul@pauldesktop:/usr/lib$ sudo ln -s libgettextlib-0.17.so libgettextlib.so
ln: failed to create symbolic link `libgettextlib.so': File exists
I'm realy new at this and can't figure it , if someone can help I would be most gratefull.
    Cheers

    dear captainchaos,
find the name of "libgettextlib.so" library in your "/usr/lib/" folder and make symbolic link to it with:
    Code:
    paul@pauldesktop:/usr/lib$ sudo ln -s libgettextlib-0.17.so libgettextlib-what_ever.so
    cheers

    Hi migius

On start up this morning I got an error
    invalid arch independent ELF magic.
    grub rescue>
So maybe this was the problem all along, so I will see if I can do a disc rescue otherwise Ill have to do a complete reinstall.

I'll let you know how it goes. I wish there was a "Complete Idiots Guide to Linux" I would certainly be a starter.

    cheers paul
