fire/skeleton horse

ok, this is my first thread and i’m not even sure if I’m doing it right. Oh well, this is my fire/skeleton horse. I spent two days modeling and rigging the horse, and a couple of minutes on the fire-mane. I could use some help on how to move the mane with the armature.

Hi there,

Welcome to the forum. It looks like your avatar may be the model you’re talking about. Can you host the image somewhere and put it here? Cheers.

Ya, what longd0g said.

ok, thanks for that tip. I think i figured it out.

Hey, not a bad start. Are you using a reference? I found this one(http://etc.usf.edu/clipart/8100/8177/horse_body_8177_lg.gif), it shows gd detail on the bones, as you can see you need to correct some things, the neck bones for example are not cylindrical, well they are but not that cylindrical, make them more sharp and, well look at the reference. You are missing the bone under the tail( i am not sure how it connects there), the shoulder bone is acually 3 bones(one on top and 2 together below it), your jaw need to be bigger.

I guess all of this tweaking will depend on how much detail you want but still, at least fix the neck and the shoulder.

I would like to see a better background in the next render
Are you making the whole thing on fire?
and are you making this based on some game or movie or something?

[EDIT]: Some more references

GD luck mate!

Ok, i did some work on the neck and jaw. I also added two more (smaller) shoulder blades under the ones already there. the neck looks very 2-D now, but i’ll fix that next. And no, I didn’t get this from a game. I just thought a skeleton would be a fun thing to model, and then i thought it would look good with fire:D.

Mmm, k , the skull is much better now, however, it still need more work, look at my horribly added image aswell as this one (http://etc.usf.edu/clipart/8100/8177…dy_8177_lg.gif), use this 1 a lot.

The neck looks better but it is square, in fact all your bones need to be cylindrical, most of them look flat.

Why did you add another shoulder bone under the existing one?? Look at the images again to see what it is supposed to look like.

Now about you render in general.
Look at these 2 tutorials to greatly improve it.

Background: http://vimeo.com/4840077 (The main point of this one is gradient. It doesn’t have to be the circle obviously, if fact i prefer top to down gradient, but really any will do i guess)

ok, i tweaked some stuff. but, before i get more in-depth with modeling. I want to fix the rigging of the model.

this picture (bellow) is of what happens when I move the armature of the model. the mane consists of a sub-divided plane, bent to the shape of the neck. I tried creating vertex groups, but that didn’t work or i did it wrong:o.

thnx for all the help so far
