Challenge #412 (10/12/10) CLOSED

Theme #412 for 10 December 2010 is: Retro Rocket

Entry closes at 2100 GMT -5 Monday 13 December 2010.

Interesting idea for a topic…

To the moon!

Pure - Made in Blender and GIMP. I used GIMP to make the rocket texture and Blender to model it. I did some Compositing in Blender (color correction, Glare) and some (like the scanlines, which aren’t available in Blender) in GIMP.

Fun theme =)

Here is my non-participating entry:

Old Space Toys

Pure Blender 2.49.

Have a good weekend, everyone!

RobertT

@Casio23 Awesome!

@ levisarts
cheers

A nice idea would be to add some stars in the BG. Not alot, just a few. looks kinda weird with the sky being all black. It’d also might look better with Approximate AO. Make sure you turn Ad-Hoc correction to full though…
Other then that, nice solar flare. Was that done by adding a single vertex where the sun was and setting it’s material to a halo flare, or was it done via compositing using the glare node?

@ matt 360
hi,
i tried using the stars function, but it just turned out badly when compositing,
ill update the image with ao and adhoc - thanks for the advice,
and i ussually use the halo flare, as it gives me more control, but in this case i just used the glare node.
thanks,
derek

@#!*% ,
i must have overwritten the .blend file:o
ill try to add some stars in another way.
i still can’t belive it
thanks,
derek

btw matt360 - loving your render

EDIT: i have updated the image (you need to click the link)

Yay. Found time to enter this one.

@Casio

:stuck_out_tongue: thanks.

If your using blender’s star function play around with the Colnoise setting - Stars aren’t all white. (also don’t set it too high or it’ll look like a disco :P)

@Tazdevyl you might wanna play with the colnoise setting too… And thats one big rocket :stuck_out_tongue:

@Casio23, welcome to the WC! Nice entry, I like the attention to detail on the lighting, and nice box texture too.

@Taz, that’s one sweet looking rocket! I’m glad you found time to enter.

@RobertT, I hate you… alright, really I like you, but you make me jealous:)

Do the bad guys count?

…how about the bad models…?

I want to make the fire with smoke sim. but i dont had enought time
:frowning: so after som photoshop worc looks like this::smiley:

…that’s so crazy it just might work…

Here’s my non-participating entry. “really retro rocket” All done in blender, used blenders image painting for the cave paintings.

Nice work so far everyone!

retro rocket

Very quick and likely to change!

Dare I say you could have designed your own using Colour Mix Nodes… Maybe say with an array or colour band???
see: http://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Doc:Manual/Composite_Nodes/Types/Color

I’d say try on another project though, because I like your current image immensely! Especially the number one in the flames!

Oh, stars!

Create a sphere, scale up, up, up, in edit mode select all and delete the faces and edges. Then apply a halo texture. Oh and randomly rotate some of the verts about…

My non competing entry. Was starting to swing torwards Santa’s Red Rocket (take that as you may, joke away if you must), though he uses this to get to his ocean front property in the off season.

Well was hoping to get more done but been lots of snow here this weekend so not as much done as I had wanted. Too much shoveling/blowing and now I hurt.

Bright side, might get more done now that my football game isn’t on…

As others said… RobertT… you make me cry. Not only do you do it outstanding, you make it seem so simple. Awesome, don’t change!
