3ds python loader New

If I understand correctly, this script is supposed to import 3ds models, textures, materials and more into Blender, right? I will honostly admit I’m a little skepticle, but I cetainly could be proven wrong.

However, when I tried the script for the first time, it only partially worked. The first time I tried it, it imported the model, but with a lot of mis rotated parts, and there was no material on the object. The misroation might be normal, and I’m not possitive that the 3ds model had a texture. The second and third models I tested both came up with python errors and said to check the console. I know that they both had textures. When I checked the console, there was nothing there. I did find the .3ds_blend_log and the last lines said this:

I honostly don’t know Python, so I’m not sure what most of this means, but if you want to review this and tell me what it/I’m doing wrong. This looks like it’s on the verge of something great. Actually after looking at the code I’m less skepticle than I was. It would be really cool to get his working so I look forward to hearing from you. Thanks for your help.

I really hope that the material import is fixed. It will be beautiful and save me months of work if I can just import the models that I have in the 3ds format.

No matter what 3ds file I try, I just get a “check the consol” error, but theres nothing there.

I have a full and proper python install . :frowning:

For me it is the materials are imported, but only one of the materials is applied object, and I mean the whole object.

Thanks for the bugs, it seems that the light part of the code has a wrong unpack format (it could be that unpack function that reads the file expect a number in a incorrect format ), Light reading is the last part i’ve made so i’ve not tested it, please can some one send me a model that have tired to import with the error? because i’ve none with the light part.

For others wich have problems with the script, please post the log as blazer003 have done, i’ve mede the script log into a file in the blender dir (the file is called 3ds_blend_log) so i could see somthing, or if u got others errors in console etc post them too.

When I import my A300 with materials I get the object and materials, but only one material is assigned (wheel) and it is assigned to the whole aircraft.

Hi
I’ve made a new realase that should fix the light and camera problems.
For the problem on the textures i need to think about it… infact every 3ds i’ve tried loads correctly with evry texture applied to it’s own mesh…
I think the problem comes when more than one material (texture) is applied to an object, for example all the 3ds models i have are composed more than one object and only one texture is applied to every object…
Could u send me the model o tellm where u’ve found it? or somthin wich gives u the prob, I need it to make some debug (u should sell it to my email 4 example)

I didn’t receive any error messages but the models are imported upside down without materials.

The objects have material names and indexes assigned to them, but they are not the same materials that are on the models.

Hi, i’ve done a knew realase (always is called 0.8 it has only bug fix)
finally I’ve found a model with light and camera and have done some fixes… now should work, at last with the model I have.
Second… the problem of mikeyb44 is beacuse the script lack of per face texturing… right now the info to associate a texture to a face is loaded from the file but i really can’t figure how do it with blender python api… I’ve tried varius way but without succes…
Anyone knows how to do it plz? some help will be very appreciated 8)

Is there any news on the import issue that I was having?

At the top of this forum in the script list sticky post, the first reply has a script for a 3ds importer… am I missing something? Is the other script buggy?

Hi, it’s out 0,9 version of the script.
Now should import proprely mseh,camera, and light… texture are agoin buggy …sob… they are loaded but not well placed.

the v0.9 is nearly perfect, but not totally :
all 3ds files are not imported correctly

I would like to get the latest release of import3ds.py
I try to download it from the developer site but it seems to be down.
Anyone can share it or let me know where to get it?
