In which path/folder did you put the patch to be applied?

Before attempting to patch, you first check that you can successfully build from master:

    https://wiki.blender.org/index.php/D...ng_Blender/Mac

About your other thread, if you are interested in small tiles optimization for GPU, this is already applied in master, and you can download from here (first links showing 2.79 in the title):

I get these errors when I try to use the Cmake method.

    Any idea?

Will check that new 2.79 build. Thanks for that.

I suggest to follow the steps here exactly, which means running "make update" and "make" instead of manually using cmake.

YAFU, thanks for testing the patch, a few things:

    * Decoupled volume shading is a more advanced volume sampling method that is only supported on the CPU. When using CPU + GPU, it disables that so the results are consistent.
    * Only GPU rendering performance can indeed be affected by this patch. Nvidia by default keeps a CPU core at 100% just to be able to react to any finished results from the GPU as quickly as possible. The patch disabled that, but we'll likely reduce the number of CPU rendering threads instead and enable it again.
    * It's easy to end up with multiple OpenCL installations that cause the same CPU to be listed multiple time (Intel OpenCL SDK, AMD APP SDK, Mesa, Beignet, pocl, ..). Not necessarily anything broken, just not useful.

    A /Users/username/blender-build/lib/darwin/python/lib/python3.5/test/test_tarfile.py
svn: E000060: Error running context: Operation timed out
    make: *** [update] Error 1

I am getting random connection/access errors. Does this usually happens?

After trying a couple of times I get timed out at different points. Not sure whats going on.

@brecht, Thank you for the explanations.

@animani, You may get more attention and make your concern more visible to Mac users if you create a thread here (for example):
    https://blenderartists.org/forum/for...nd-Development

In Linux with Git sometimes I get time out error, but rarely. You should try again, and make sure your internet connection is good.

Thanks mate. Will try there because the time out persists at a certain point always. My connection is not a problem at all.

In other recent development, someone created a patch that adds initial BVH8 support.
    https://developer.blender.org/D2875

It's possible that this will have a major impact for those looking to get a new PC and here is why. Because this makes better use of AVX2 instructions, this could arguably make Intel's 6 core Coffee Lake chips superior to even the Ryzen 8 core 1800X (so the latter becomes a bad deal when realizing you would have less performance for more money).

    Tiny bit exaggerating...
Few percent improvement while rendering, more during BVH build.

There's still whole more coding to do to achieve your possible prophecy.

But this is Cycles we're talking about, when you deal with a pathtracer, you want every ounce of performance you can get.

That's not to mention how a decent Ryzen 7 machine (not 1800X) is potentially more expensive once you take into account the faster RAM needed to get more performance (especially with the spike in prices over the last year). I can verify this with the hypothetical online builds I did in the last week or so.

In my opinion, since I don't really see a need for a new machine until Blender 2.8 becomes production ready, I might need to see yet how much of an upgrade Ryzen+ will be (a 20 percent per-core improvement for instance would be enough to ensure that Intel won't pour coffee on them).

    Hi.
When I use denoising in this scene (16x16) using CPU+GPU patch I notice some tiles with noise:
(you may need to enlarge the image to see it better)
    http://pasteall.org/pic/show.php?id=119611
    http://pasteall.org/blend/index.php?id=48081

I am not sure about commenting this in patch entry because I am not sure if the nodes of the material are being used correctly here.

    Edit:
Oops! I just realized that even this material is not necessary for this to be noticeable:

    Another simple scene:
