    I did use yesterday's build from buildbot. I've now downloaded the latest one you indicated and set:

    Feature Set: Supported
    Disabled Spatial Splits
    Disabled Hair BVH
    Tiles X: 480; Y: 270

    But I still used 1225 samples (35 squared) as set in the file and used in the benchmark in the link I posted.
    After the render kernel was loaded, I stopped and restarted the render.

    And the render time was 3:56.51 (236.51 seconds)

  2. #2662
    ok, thanks, but we have to get the same settings, otherwise you render much more then others...so here my settings...can you please set these settings and render again, because these are the standard settings from the original file...at least, i downloaded it a time ago, so i suppose, all the settings are the same...i did not expect that on blender.org the settings are different...so i suppose everyone on this forum has the same settings, or we have to post also the other settings, like sampling:

    sampling.jpg

  3. #2663
    With the same settings but 400 AA samples I'm getting 1:20.96 (80.96 seconds)

  4. #2664
    this is the right value...as i said before, amd rx 580 = gtx 1060, probably a bit better (up to 10%) than 1060...

  5. #2665
    i propose to write more info-values than gtx580 1:20, probably something like this, please use this format, otherwise there is a lot of confusion and no usefull information, a small change in one of these settings can make a huge difference:

    @s12a

    Use one tile when rendering.
    I can only give suggestions, personal opinions and constructive critique, but it is your decision what you do with it.

  7. #2667
    With the latest builds of blender a very large tile size doesn't yield many benefits anymore.

    Release notes for the upcoming 2.79 version:
    https://wiki.blender.org/index.php/D...es/2.79/Cycles

    OpenCL
    The amount of work that the compute device does at once is now determined automatically to fill available memory, independent of tile size. This reduces render times by up to 50% in certain cases, without the need to adjust the tile size for every scene or system configuration. (230c00d)

    Have you activated the GPU for rendering ? Here's an other result with a GTX 1080 Ti and it's about 42s : https://blenderartists.org/forum/sho...=1#post3184449

    Quick question about this test.. do you just download the file from Blender, open it and hit F12? If that's the case, I get very different times than you guys.

    Also, I'm experiencing a strange thing where my new laptop that has a 1070 is rendering faster than my big desktop with a 1080 FTW. My laptop renders that BMW scene at 3:02 and my big computer renders it in 4:12. What do you guys think would cause my 1080 to render so much slower?

    The only values that are allowed to be changed are the Tiles Size: Render Tab > Performance > Tiles

    For GPU and this scene you try on your card with X=480, Y=270

    About 1080 on desktop PC being slower than laptop 1070, it's kind of weird. You try different drivers on PC. If you use Win 10, you download the drivers from the nvidia web site, do not use those provided by Windows.

    Edit:
    It seems to me that both times you get are slow. Where did you download the scene? You make sure you are using BMW27.blend downloaded from the first link in this thread, not the scene downloaded from blender.org.

    Edit 2:
    Oh yeah, you said download the file from Blender... Bad thing!

    @YAFU

    Thanks for the info! I was really wondering how my laptop's 1070 compared to my desktop's 1080. I was shocked when the laptop rendered faster... and a lot faster at that so I know something is wrong with the desktop.

    I did have a massive GPU crash Friday night on the desktop that made me have to return to an old checkpoint (win10). Maybe there was something wrong the whole time. The crash was while playing BF1. I'm wondering if the card is not overheating or something. I might contact MSI and let them know I'm having issues.
