    Cool. Thanks for sharing.

Fantastic... but one problem, The shading works but the "wires" do not render.

    Blender 2.61

    Thanks!

It works for me, try changing any material to wire and see if it renders, please remember it is for BI... maybe also play with z-offset value

    Hi liero,
You must add absolutely version option in your addon, please. It's necessary.
    Thanks in advance.

    Corrected:

I've been having trouble with this script when rendering in cycles. The create wire option works perfectly when I try it out on very simple objects like cubes etc. but when I try to apply it more complex ones it just freezes Blender. Using Windows 7 Professional and my specs are in my sig if it helps, running 2.61. When it works the results are brilliant, just need to get it to work on my larger scenes that require nice and clear wireframe renders.

yes, the script asks blender to create a curve from a pure edges mesh, and that can take a long time for complex meshes... try working on a few objects at a time or maybe render a shadeless B/W in BI and multiply on compositor..? thanks guys for comments

Great addon, will definitely be useful!

I was wondering however if the material takes into account the subsurf modifiers optimal display option. On some objects it seemed to work on others not quite.

Was just trying this script out on a model composed of several smaller objects - a car model - and for some reason, 1 mesh ended up the color of the wire material, all the rest were the color of the clay material in the 3d view. When I rendered, indeed the one object that had the wire material in the 3d view only rendered out as a wire - there was no solid clay material on that mesh. Turns out the problem was because the mesh was hidden in edit mode. After using alt-h in edit mode to un-hide the mesh and hitting 'Apply Materials' again corrected the problem.

Very useful script! Just wanted to share this tip....

hi, just a little update here to use wire frame operator instead of curves to get the wire object for cycles -converting mesh edges to curves was ridiculously slow- also fixed some other issues I think

Thanks for a fantastic script. I have a question though, is it possible to make the script render out simplified sub d wireframe? That would be uber cool! Something like this effect

    thanks everybody...

lorembolo, it should work under 2.65 but it is a BI only solution

for Cycles there are a couple of node setups that can do the trick, or use the option to create a 'wire object' in addon
this extra object won't respect modifiers -it can be done but would mean adding lots of vertices to the scene-

    Thanks a lot!

But I find this extremely terrible that Blender doesn not have a built-in features of wire renders like this. This is a good diagnose for the software.

I wonder if there a possibility to have ONLY wires? With everything else transparent?
How should I change the script to make it work this way?
