Thanks, norvman.

You might want to remove the leading “http://” from the link.

Also, will you be posting a blend file with the final rig?

hummm that’s interesting… the link doesn’t work… even without the extra http//… So I guess YouTube was lieing to me when they gave me that link… the Nuckleheads!!! … youtube is getting to be really jickey about everything… i’m having serious thoughts about packing up and moving to another service… like Vimeo… anyway let me see what I need to do to make it work…

Okay got it working… Thanks guys @Sackadoo for the heads up…

Will you be posting a blend file?

Yep… right here… (well I should say … I hadn’t thought to do that… but now that you pointed it out… ) on BlenderArtist… but not on YouTube…

Thanks, norvman.

Extremely awesome, will this also work with more complicated tank tracks?

Its funny, CG artists have been struggling with this for years. It is like a right of passage, every up and coming 3d artist has to animate some tank treads at some point.

every up and coming 3d artist has to animate some tank treads at some point.

it’s also a good way for experienced 3D Riggers to learn a preticular 3D package… (Blender)

I know many Seasoned 3D Artist who still don’t know how to do it…

will this also work with more complicated tank tracks

I can’t imagine how it wouldn’t… note to however… this Rigg doesn’t do everything… for instance it doesn’t take into acount ground deformations… Peter Drakulic on YouTube has a good tutorilal on building a TankTread Rigg for that… (I think you may have to search for Catapillar Assembly…

Thanks,It’s realy funny.

thats interesting

Made an addtion to my Tank Track video series addressing getting rid of unrealistic deformation of the Tank Links…

see it here…

Hi Norvman, I’m building the tread version of a small (about 40 cm long) bomb disposal robot called Dragon Runner. There are lots of images on Google. I’ve been following your Tank Track tutorials to rig the tread and wheels, but I’ve run into a problem with the driver for the wheels: when I try to assign the Hull to control the first driving wheel, the wheel itself rotates 90 degrees on the world Y axis. This happens before I make any adjustment to expression. Here’s a screen shot of the problem.

Sorry, this is my first post on this forum and I can’t figure out how to make the image bigger.

Any thoughts would be much appreciated.
Tom

Try my model http://www.blendswap.com/blends/view/69823
I think there you will find answer

Thanks, brothermechanic. It’s a beautiful tank model. If I can’t get mine to work with the driver, I’ll use your armature method.

Sorry twharvey I’ve taken so long to respond… my work sometimes takes me out of town away from my main blender computer and I’m just getting around to answering your question… it probably would be best if I could look at your file… if you can post it… (you may not be able to here if you haven’t reached the minimum posting level… if not… then upload it to PastAll.org and then come back here and post the download site and we can go from there…

Also… Don’t worry about making the screen shot bigger you can just click on the image and it will open a new window… (at least in Firefox this works) then it gives me a zoom to get a closer look…

also… nice tracks…

Thanks Norvman, I figured it out and finally got the whole track rig working. I had to re-set the rotation on the wheel to zero in Edit Mode then go back into Object mode and build the driver. Here’s the model:

Thanks,
Tom
