    Thanks for the recommendation! I think I'll use that for things like hands, but I can't seem to get it to work with shape keys.

    All of the recent tutorials only show how to use Action Constraints with other bones, and the only tutorial I can find with the shape keys is for Blender 2.4 and the UI for that is alien to me.

    I did find another solution thanks to some searching based on your post, a Blender Add-on called Driver Constraints. I tested it out and it worked flawlessly. Shape key drivers are back on the menu for me.

    I am using Cycles' Toon Shader; I set the Size to about .900 with smooth about .100; rendered with two Sun Lamps set at 0.000 (to create hard light/shadows) and 2.000 (to create soft lighting/shadows). Other than that, I didn't do anything special and almost everything was simply trial and error. I did enhance a bit with using the Compositor to saturate the colors to they're more toon looking and not so flat.

    This time done with the actual proper scales applied. I didn't realize how much of a negative effect working with inconsistent scales, location and rotations would have on a model or several objects. Hard lesson learned.

    In this session I rendered an straight undies shot so I could use Photoshop to help me quickly block out how I want the uniform to come together and then modeled them in Blender. Developing a Blender process has taken most of my time whenever I have a chance to use it.

    I am testing out adding more details to the uniform but keeping details simple on the character to see if whether or not they mesh well (no pun intended).

    This is a direct render, using Cycles of course.
