3D growing Game of Life (John Conway)

Some years ago, when I was young, innocent and still used Maya, I made a 3D Game of life simulator.
I plan to make a whole new project based on the same concept using Blender (hopefully starting in less than a year, when I have a new computer). Expect it to look very different (an order of magnitude bigger, longer and with more colors and elements). There will probably be some legos too.

The concept is quite simple: I run a regular 2D Game of Life simulation with cubes, except each step gets moved away so it doesn’t have to disappear and this way, time within the simulation becomes a geometrical dimension (height).
