Also, please resize that emoji so it's not super huge.
It said it was about 500 by 500.

I read some research that says underpricing your game is worse than over pricing it.
Extra Credits covered that with the JC Penny effect episode.

I've bought some stinker games that really made me just invest in CSGO items. *cough* Chivalry and Red Orchestra + Rising Storm. Those cost me more money than usual and I was just so disappointed. Browsing the Greenlight there was a game, like Megarats or something, the dev wanted 20 bucks. I'd bet he didn't make a single asset or mechanic in that game (it really wasn't even a game). I guess people like that just put me off Greenlight games.

on Steam you can only LOWER the price of your game
    I didn't know that.

Solarlune, does the Greenlight fee get to be written off on your taxes, for the children? Do you know how close you are to being greenlit?

Here's my take: First, I agree with Haidme. Also, I think you should price the game on the experience (whether it's 30 minutes long or 10 hours long). As long as you would pay that amount for your own game, I think most people will think the same. The 10$ - 15$ dollar range seems fine to me, it seems like a lot of indie games are priced this way anyways.

On another note, AAA developers have the luxury of setting the price of their game low because of their larger marketing budget. Not to mention that if a game has been out for over 3 - 4 years, the only way to encourage people to buy is the lower price.

    tl;dr, 10$ - 15$ seems fair - at least from what I've seen

@cam. Not sure about the GL fee getting to be written off; it's just $100, but I guess I can still claim it as a business deduction?

    Oooooooh my goodness. So, uh, Gearend's greenlit now. :O :O :O :O :O :O :O

    That's amazing!

I think your following and constant activity both on Twitter and YouTube really sped up the process for the GreenLight.
I really advocate Twitter use to build a following and for promotion. Retweets build up, you never know who it might reach.

    Again, great job

    Congratulations

    stupid question,
what happens after a project is being greenlit on steam,do you have a limited time to finish the project off or ?

Once again congrats and hope the project will be successful and a good learning experience

  11. #51
    Yo, thanks everyone!

@Lucrecious - Yeah, I think having some kind of a following helped me out, though I think just having a quality product is most important. Second is getting it out there to interested people, too.

@Fenice - After a project's Greenlit, I have as much time as I need to finish it up.

    ______

Here's another development log video, too! Game's looking better and better the more I work on it!

Oh yeah, I completely agree. I just thought that along with having a quality product, the twitter following was definitely a good idea on your part as well.

Holy cow, SolarLune! I just heard the news! Congratulations!

I'd have voted if I knew you were on Greenlight.

    Yo!

So the game is done, after a couple of years of work, haha.

You can grab it on itch, and Steam. People who buy it on itch have access to a free Steam key. Here's the links:

    https://solarlune.itch.io/gearend
    http://store.steampowered.com/app/574500/Gearend/

The OST is also available on Bandcamp:

    https://solarlune.bandcamp.com/album...d-official-ost

    ___

If you do buy it and have feedback or bugs to report, please don't post here - post on the game's forums.

Thanks a ton for your help and feedback, everybody.

It looks great, nice trailer too, though the white background for the text is a bit eye-hurting in full screen.

Yeah, didn't really think about that too much, unfortunately, Smoking Mirror. I'll have to remember it for next time.
