When I visit the website, I get this shield icon that tells me that the website is trying to “load scripts from unauthenticated sources”. I am currently using Google Chrome. Clicking on it takes me to a Google support page that tells me that the site may not be secure. Is this site safe for me to use without risking some virus being downloaded onto my computer?

It is your choice, if you are able making one.
The process is automated, a protocol based on ‘unchecked reports’. Prevention as a security measure.
Also Open Source is oftentimes considered a risk.
What’s wrong with Google? You’re acting like that’s a bad thing. Believe it or not, but millions of people use Google per day. It’s a bit rude to question my capability to make decisions when I’m only asking for help. But I also do appreciate you answering my question, so thanks for that.
This may be due to the fact that blenderartists.org now always uses SSL for web traffic. However, some of the scripts for the site might pull from non-SSL sources. Will investigate.
