character destruction/dissolve

Hi i have a question. i know that is possible to destruct objects in blender using addons and particle systems, but i was wondering if it is possible to apply the same ideas to a rigged character? So that i could animate him while he dissolves, (e.g. turning to ash and blowing away in the wind) the problem i have is, because a rig uses vertex groups to know how to deform the mesh,and that a destruction simulation requires you to break your mesh into random faces (or is there another way to do this without messing with the mesh?) i don’t see how this can work. i haven’t actually tried this yet, i thought id ask in-case i was reinventing the wheel. has anyone tried to do this and either succeeded or failed? any response if even a little helpful would be great! thanks :slight_smile:
