How to Rotate Mesh but keep Shapekey Orientation?

Hi fellow Blender users,

I’ve created a rigged game character in Blender but rotated all the vertices by 90 deg. to have the local x-axis forward. I then proceeded to create shapekeys for the character. I realize now this was a mistake, as I can’t take advantage of Blender’s x-axis mirroring tools. Is there a simple way to rotate the character back by 90 deg. in the basis shapekey, but still keep the orientation and behavior of all the other shapekeys? Presently, if I try to rotate the character in the Basis key, all the other keys act weird (the vertices won’t respect the new rotation).

I’ve figured out a tedious workaround for this, but it sure would be nice to have access to those built-in x-axis tools again.

Any suggestions if this is possible?

Thanks so much!

What happens when you rotate the character in object mode, then apply the rotation?

Wow!!! Thank you so much! I can’t believe how easy that was… you’re a lifesaver!

Have a great week!
