My cloth sleeves keep collapsing!

I’ve got a very simple robe and hood going. Although I intend to work on the hood more, so far the robe is very close to a square with sleeves. Problem is that the sleeves always collapse in onto themselves, almost completely! How might I make the sleeves stay out when the rest of the cloth stays mostly the same?

Before animation: Such detail. Wow.

After animation: Actually kind of pretty, except for the sleeves.

So many things that can go wrong with cloth :slight_smile: Be best if you could share a .blend file for others to look at. That crumpled look can happen sometimes when there is a little penetration between the cloth and character in the rest position before simulation.

Zoom in as tight as you can around the arm and shoulders and move any vertices that you think might possibly be intersecting with the body. Sometimes they are tricky to spot. Good luck!

You can try to use pinning:

  1. in edit mode create vertex group for part of cloth that should be fixed (pinned)
  2. in cloth animation properties check “Pinning” and select your vertex group;
  3. run cloth simulation.

There are however other issues in your robe:

  • it is too far from the body - it should be closer
  • it needs more polygons at certain areas.

So this only fix will not improve the robe significantly.
