Coffee Grinder Stills

Hi everyone! I’ve just joined blenderartists.org and it’s great to join this awesome forums to see great works made by cool Blender artists all over the world.

This is my first post and decided to just jumped in to the Work In Progress forum. My goal is to create a Coffee Grinder Stills. One of my favorite subjects and also favorite drinks for us people that grinding pixels everyday

At the same time I’m trying to create assets that is light in textures, uses procedurals and most of all train myself to use Blender in more tidy and clean production environment.

Without no further ado, this is the kind of reference that I’m aiming at :

And after some research, I decided to use this measurement, plan it roughly to start asset creation.

I started modeling it sometimes about 9 months ago, on and off in my spare time between work and family time. Here are final modeling that I did somewhere in June this year :

So, next up I’ll post the WIP of Look Development for the grinder.

After going back and forth for quite some time. Here are the direction that I’m going to go with. I’m still refining here and there, especially the metal parts to add more break ups so that it’s not so smooth and clean. I’ve done that with the small handle the bottom and will continue for the rest this week.

Please have a look and let me know what you guys think. Any thoughts, ideas or suggestions are widely welcome!

Cheers…

Well I don’t have any suggestions but I just wanted to say that it’s looking really nice!

Thanks Keisarinvaimo! I’m still thinking to improve it more to add wear and tear for the metals. But will come to that later, for now I’m modeling variation of coffee beans to spread around for the scene.

I don’t know whether three are enough for variations. Maybe I’ll add more once the texturing process kicks in.

Adding materials and textures procedurally for the three beans variations. Still not happy with it, but thinking to move forward to start blocking the overall shots. Will come back for refining the beans once I’m finish scattering them.

looking good

what nodes set up did you use for the brass bowl on top ?
looks old and nice

is it supposed to be same model then shown in earlier post ?

happy cl

Hi Ricky, thanks. Here is the node setup for the bowl. Pretty simple setup using Dirty Vertex Colors and Layer weight to mix the diffuse over glossy and anisotropic bsdf.

Well, for the image on the first post, is just a reference. I decided to go slightly different and try to mix with other coffee grinder types. It also give me the basic scaling reference for the grinder.

Btw, I moved to to layout the would be final scene with the grinder and the ground plane. Added IBL for the overall lighting. There’s still more stuffs that need to be done.

6 months after I held this project back due to work, I’ve decided to put the coffee grinder into a scene and modeled the room. Right now still WIP, but I’m planning to finish it this month.

Played around with Filmic color management as well, it turned out to be really good. The exposure feels very natural.

As usual any inputs are welcome.
