Realm of Ancient Lore

Hello Everyone!

I previously tried my hand at a a project here called “Medieval fantasy RPG” which as ambitious as it seemed at first eventually broke down due to a lack of direction and leadership.

I’d like to see if I can get the ball rolling again!

This time we’ll be able to start fresh with a clear direction of where we are going and what we want to accomplish.

Realm of Ancient Lore

Realm of Ancient Lore is an immersive medieval-era role playing game designed in the spirit of the classics. You will be able to choose among various races, classes, specializations, and more.

The game will have multiple “Realms” with vast areas of land and sea
Players will be able to play in their own individual realms or visit shared or public realms using transport portals. Each realm will have it’s own unique set of lands and characteristics.

Players will be able to immediately start adventuring out into the world or can instead follow a guided story line to get them started towards a successful future. You will be able to choose a path as a variety of different professions and trades such as blacksmith, merchant, and farmer.

Once players have increased their skills and assets they can purchase, trade, or plunder land, and structures to use for their own benefit. They will be able to partner up with other players of various levels of power and influence.

The game will feature a simulated economy with silver and gold schillings as the base unit of currency. There will be an ever growing supply of collectible materials available to be utilized in the crafting of various items and objects.

I have many more ideas to come but this should give a general idea of the feel of the game.

Blender will be used for asset generation and prototyping. Final game compilation will be done using Unity 3D.
This is a side hobby project for me so I am not investing any up-front capital however if I see enough potential I may look into funding later on.

The game itself will most likely be very inexpensive or free with possible upgrades available for a fee

For now, this is an unpaid volunteer project with potential for reimbursement at a later time.

Hello, i’m interested in participating (likely as a modeler or texture artist) but i would like more information about this “clear direction” that you were talking about

Greetings and thank you for responding.

In reference to the clear direction, I was referring to the project being managed, organized, and developed in such a way that gives the members the objectives, tools, and knowledge needed to arrive at the desired goals.

The current mission is to create interest in the project among other fellow Blender Artists who don’t know about it yet. There is an exceptional pool of talent here and I think that this community can put together something epic if done correctly.

I will attempt be doing weekly updates here so you can check on the status of the project.

Everything is in Pre-Alpha state at the moment however it is functional and ready to start using.

The project management part of the site is coming along well.


This will allow us to keep track of what we are working on. It’s organized by projects and game assets. I’ll be able to keep track of who works on what and they’ll be able to have all the information they need to complete the task.

I’ve tried to set it up to be as intuitive as possible for this type of work and will be improving it as we go.

Now that the underlying structure is in place I can now add the different things we need done.

Once you have joined you will be able to look through the list of assets and assign yourself the one you want to work on. You can use it to keep track of the work as much as you like or just mark it complete when done.

You can now login to the project with a guest account to get a basic idea of the layout and see the game assets list.

You can access the portal by clicking project at the bottom of the main site.


The guest user login is “guest” and the password is “Guest123”

We’re looking to recruit people with all varieties of skill levels and backgrounds. This is low pressure project designed to allow you to work at your own pace.

A few notes:
This is very buggy
Press Escape or “Q” to quit
Right click to look forward, I have some work to do on the view controller.

It’s very basic at the moment but will provide us with a place to start.
I’ve used some free assets as placeholders for now to test out some things like pet following (has some bugs) and paths.

There is a Castle with Two spiders Guarding it outside the town to the left when you start.
You can enter one of the houses as well as the cave towards the mountains.
You can also walk through the canyon in the mountains to a whole other map.

Quick update:

I’ve updated the main site so it looks better and has a link to the game demo

The project portal now has dedicated sections for
Projects, Game Assets, Actions and Objectives, Classes and Groups, Attributes and Effects, Crafting, Areas, and more

There are now 130+ game assets to be created!

The game will eventually allow you to customize your character when you begin and will start you off as a an infant of that race in one of their lands of origin. The races to choose from will be diverse and include roles as monsters and animals.

Focus will first be set on creation of the role of playing a human character born to a chance set of circumstances. How you decide to proceed from there will determine what type of player you will morph into. Will you study scrolls and venture off following the local wizard or will you get into fights and join the local Fighter’s Guild? The choice will be up to you.

Players will age and hopefully gain knowledge, skills, and experience. During the course of their lives they will have opportunities to create a family and gain followers. There will be opportunities for immortality as well as rebirth allowing you to play as your child, an apprentice you have trained, or a charmed animal or creature.

You will be able to train and eventually work in a trade effecting the local economy. However you will need to be vigilant as all the elements of the game are connected. Creatures attacking towns several miles away could have ripple effects across the regions if they are a source of critical resources.

Players will be able to amass vast collections of various items and store them in their own personal properties, banks, vaults, and others, however there will always be the risk of corruption, theft, and plain robbery. There will always be the option of burying or hiding it if you can find it and the leprechauns don’t take it all.

I will continue to work on the project with my Son and keep you posted, would love to have others join the team!

Regarding asset quality:

We are looking for the highest quality models and textures.
With the capabilities of current computers and graphics cards and the ability to adjust the games setting for the individual systems we should be able to obtain near photo realism.
The aim of this game is to be as realistic, immersive, and believable as possible.

With that said, all the models and textures are automatically compressed and optimized upon import so having too many quads should not be an issue.

You also don’t need to be an expert. Not sure if it is good enough? That’s fine! Submit it anyway! It’s better to have something than nothing at all. We can always request that you work on it more, you can assign it to someone else, or whatever.

Regarding revenue:
Interested in a portion of any possible revenue? You can keep track of your hours on the project tasks. If revenue is generated later i’ll use this to keep track of disbursements. To be clear, this is currently an unpaid volunteer project with the possibility of revenue down the line.

I haven’t decided on the final licensing or pricing model yet. I would like the core game to be free however haven’t ruled out a nominal cost. Chances are any revenue schemes generated, if any, will be through either DLC, elite skins and items, or other minimally advantageous upgrades. If revenue if generated, then I plan on distributing the funds between myself, the project, the members, Blender and Blender Artists, and others that make this project possible. For now I don’t plan on locking myself in any contracts but if it begins to looks promising I will draw something up.
