Stamping inlays onto/into a model?

Let’s say i have a base mesh to which i want to add some already prepared details (inlays).

Is there any way to make blender use one mesh as a “stamp”.
Meaning that i use one inlay mesh and copy it with a single click (one can hope) directly ontop of the other mesh and have it apply a boolean modifier each time (union or difference)?

Basically a similar behavior to a sculpting brush just using the boolean modifier instead.

Edit:

Well i worked something out by creating copys and the snapping function … still if there is a more direct solution i would be glad to know.
