One unofficial vote for Helge’s elephants. That is an awesome picture.

My unofficial for Heldge also. I did make an official vote though.

@Ryeath, Hatchnet:
Thanks a lot! :slight_smile:
I ride by a similar field almost every day on my way to work and always had the feeling that something was missing…
(Apart from that it was a great opportunity for playing around with true displacement and large scale volume shaders.)

@Helge how good of a computer do you use for true displacement?
I’ve been thinking of tooling around with true displacement, but I’ve been reluctant because I’ve heard it’s very hard on your computer.

Oh wait, nevermind. I was thinking of true displacement with adaptive subdivision.

Rendering the image took about 37 minutes on an Intel Core i7-3770K, 16GB RAM

And you are right about true displacement with adaptive subdivision. It worked very well for the field - I didn’t have any problems. Placing most of the scene within a volume scatter cube was what made things a little slow. :slight_smile:

And… the winner of Weekend Challenge 710 with 31.58% of the votes is… fcharr!

Here’s to all the great participators…

fdo : 4 : 21.05%
rarebit : 1 : 5.26%
