Tracking for Masking purposes

I’m editing some relatively simple (but low quality) footage, and using masks to help my crappy greenscreening.

I’d like to be able to use LARGE (like 300px) markers without it taking forever - to track a person’s head as a giant blob, for instance. I would want it to work as if the footage were really low-resolution… is there any way to get that kind of rough tracking?

Then make a really low-res version of your footage and track that. As long at the two have the same aspect ratio there shouldn’t be any problems as Blender uses normalized values for tracking coordinates.

You can use Blender to simply generate a proxy using the options in the movie clip editor properties panel, then in the same panel change your footage file path to that of the generated proxy file. Then do all your tracking and if you require it switch the filepath back to the highres version then you’re done.
