Working with 3D manipulator along non straight angles

So I´ve been into Blender since around 4 years or so.
I still couldn´t figure out a problem i got stuck with everytime,
maybe i simply ain´t had the right words for it but google never
came up with what I wanted.

Im bascially trying to move a vertex point along a non straight edge
to be bound exactly to another line - where no point exists to be snapped to
(see picture). With activating magnet the angle gets fucked as i can only
choose x or y coordinates, not the ones along my original line :frowning:

Snapping tools can’t snap on the intersection like that, unless it happens to be in a 90° angle. It’s possible to project geometry on the intersecting surface with face snapping which solves some of the snapping problems.

Adjust your modeling workflows to get around that limitation. Might also be able to work around it using cutting tools or some addon.

tools for intersection:

It looks like you need to move the vertex along the face’s normals.

If you zoom in as close as possible, you can match up the vertex to the edge so it will be right on it.

Another possible trick is to sudbivide the edge you want to connect to, then slide the new vertex to the point you want to connect at. and use that to snap the other vertex to it. Just an idea…

you could also do it using snapping using certain views and orientations w/o a addon but isnt as fast

Ah yeah i know the thing with double tapping G and moving a vertex along non-straight lines,
just wondered if there was a way for making it real, not just round about.
