It ended up being quite different from the concept (see here in the wip)
Textures are hand painted in Blender with some touch up in Gimp.

How did you get that wireframe? Did U multiply the wireframe with the color?

Yes, something like that in the end!
I rendered the wireframe material and the shaded model separately, imported them in Gimp and then applied the alpha channel of the wireframe to the shaded layer. To mask the backsides of the wireframe I used an alpha masked, shrunk copy of the model as I rendered the wireframe.
At first I tried to render the shading on the wireframe directly in Blender but it was looking strange.
I can make some kind of tutorial if someone is interested…
