Working on Volumetric-less atmosphere shaders

I’ve Been woking on this atmosphere node group for a little while, adding elements, removing them. I’m stuck at this point… any suggestions?

It looks pretty good for a non-volumetric shader. The color’s a bit too saturated IMO. I’d also consider using SSS instead of diffuse so you still get some light scattering through it.

That’s an Idea… I’ll try it out!

Very nice!
the SSS shader makes things slow and noisy for me.
I also found that swapping the transparent and the mix going into the last mix you can remove the color ramp and have the layer weight feed directly into the mix fac. If you change the layer weight settings to facing and 0.35 it looks great for me.
Though it always depends on what look you’re going for! Thanks for this!!
(here I have your setup with my changes applied to a sphere just above the surface of the planet)
