This is really interesting, mathsy and hypnotic, and I’d like to know how you did it. I have no idea how you can make holes appear in a mesh like you did here.

Hier the simplified procedure.
- Create a plane.
- Cut the plane in horizontal stripes. (source-object)
- Dublicate the object. (destination-object)
- Create a python-dirver-function that behaves like an mesh-modifier.
The driver has some parameters, that can be keyframed.
Update the destination mesh after transformation of the vertices. - The borderlines of the strips do touch each other after the Transformation.
Glue them together to get closed envelope areas. - Render.
