Particles (object mesh) no shadows?

SOLVED at bottom (sigh)

Hi all,

I’m working on a scene where I created a super simple “rocket” and used that in particle system. The original object casts a shadow just fine (as seen in photo) but once the objects are used via the particle system, I’m not getting any shadows.

I’m not sure what info is useful, but here are some notes:
I’ve turned the emitter off in my scene.
Currently a single sun lamp is illuminating the entire scene.
“cast shadows” is on
Cycles Render
B3D version: 2.78c


Am I missing something simple?

EDIT/Solution: While I was testing and removing the emitter, I had turned OFF the shadow visibility for the emitter too.


(I highlighted what I had turned off)

As soon as I turned it back on…poof! shadows!

Who woulda thunk you have to turn shadows on to see shadows!
