Spray of music notes

Hello !
I’m new to this forum (and to Blender, which I started learning a few weeks ago and loving it a lot).
A few years ago, I did an image with POV-Ray which contained a “spray” of music symbols, made
by randomly selecting chars within a subset of a music font, and positioning them (semi-)randomly.

I’d like to recreate that in Blender (I’ve searched online for a method to arrange letters randomly, but found nothing so far). Is there a way to do that ‘out of the box’ ? Or should I start fiddling in python (which doesn’t frighten me, but I would like, for my first complete image, to explore included features first) ?

I don’t need it to be animated (I’ll tackle animations later).

I posted my question here in “particles”, but maybe I’m wrong and should post in “modeling” instead. Tell me if it’s so.

Thanks in advance for any input

Noten.blend (456 KB) somthing like this.

Thanks a lot ! That’s very interesting ! I think (after close examination) I’ve grasped most of the mechanics of it; I’m gonna make my own from scratch to make sure I completely understood.
