Image not crisp enough

I have created a box in blender, putting my texture on each side using a png file I have. However, when I render, the image is not as crisp as I would have hoped.

Is that due to the distance of the camera from the box? Or do I need to scale up the box or something?

Thanks,

Jon

Without seeing the render, and more info, it impossible to say.

Yes, understandable. I can supply the render. What other info would help?

Blender internal or cycles? If cycles, how many samples? Can we see the original image?

If you can… File->External data->Pack All into .blend, then upload to http://pasteall.org/blend

With the file we can see exactly what’s going on.

Ah, great upload site! http://pasteall.org/blend/index.php?id=45991

When I did the pack all into blend, I didn’t see anything happen on my PC. So I hope the file I uploaded has the info you needed.

My reply I did with a link has been stuck in moderation. So I will upload the file instead. I did the pack thing but I couldn’t see any dialog box or anything.

Well the upload worked, but the pack didn’t, so I can’t see the image. First thing that jumps out at me… I’d bump the samples up to 500 at least.

No textures were packed into the file, so I can just comment on non-texture related stuff:
a) Your object has unapplied, non-uniform scale. Select the box in Object mode and hit Ctrl-A > Scale.
b) Your use of the texture space is highly inefficient. Ypu’re not even using half of the available resolution.
c) You box is 4.6 x 7.4 x 7.4 meters large. Quite a box!

Ok, I managed to pack it this time!

Someone told me before to put 1, 1, 1 as Scale. But I didn’t know what that really did and it didn’t seem to affect anything when I was building the box. But perhaps it affects the render. Not really sure what Scale is!

Err, yes, box is supposed to have units cm not metres!

Under the render tab, change the resolution scale from 50% to 100%.

Thanks guys. I will try all those recommendations.

This may seem like a stupid question, but how do I save as a png file so I can manipulate it in something like Pixelator or Fireworks?

I suppose you wanted to write save instead of saw, sooo…
Make sure you selected png as output format in the render properties, when youre scene is rendered and the image is dislpayed in blender hover your mouse over it and press F3. You’ll be facing a file browser where you can choose a place to save.

… or click Image > Save as Image.
In the following dialogue you can select the file type and save path (that’s basically the same as hitting F3, see above).

Thanks guys. I’m finding blender has a very steep learning curve but I am making little improvements to my learning all the time!
