Sungate monument (beginner) -problem with UV mapping

Hello dear forum users,

I am learning how to us blender so I started with this ancient monument. The modelling was easy enough though perhaps you will have advice to give in that domain. Keep in mind it is the first time I use UV mapping if that will give you an idea of my level. I made a simple stone-like material to visualise. Bellow is the wireframe.

Problem arose when I started texturing. I read a tutorial on how to UV-map which in this very case seems quite to the point; after all I used an image off the internet as background to do the modelling so I tried to reuse it in mapping. I did a “project from view” map.

So far so good and it looks nice in textured mode. I now have two materials: one for the UV and one basic. I plan to use the basic one to fill in the blanks.
The two materials.

Now if I render this I get only the basic texture, not the UV-map texture. What may be the problem?

The UV material specifically.

Thank you for taking the time, I would greatly appreciate any advice as well as help solving this mapping problem!
