The smart way of clothing your character in the BGE

A week ago, I was trying to make cloth in the Blender Game Engine. I wanted a cape for my character, because it looks epic!!!
So I tried the Soft Body simulations of BGE… Not a great deal. At the end I gave up and my character had no cape. The problems had been:
-Performance and FPS-Dropping:
-To many Physics Calculations
-glitches, glitches, and even more glitches

“no chance”, I thought. The next day I played ‘SW - The Knight of the old Republic’ and looked at the capes and clothing of this game. There haven’t been physics or something else. The clothes had been animated!

So I searched a way to convert Cycles clothing to a animation and then to the BGE
SUCCESS!

Here’s how you make cloth the smart way:

  1. Set up your cloth in cycles

  2. Bake the cloth-physics in the ‘Cloth Cache’ Panel

  3. Select the cloth

  4. Export it with ‘Lightwave Point Cache (.mdd)’ (enable in User Preferences)

  5. Go to the BGE

  6. Import your .mdd file (with cloth-mesh selected)
Now you have converted the cloth-physics to keyframes!!!

You can rename them in the shape-key-editor (Dope-Sheet)

Now you can use the baked animation!

Oooh interesting approach! Would you mind posting an example?

I tried this technic and it works.

The addon to enable is Lightwave Coint Cache (.mdd).
Do not use Alembic files .abc, it doesnt make shapekeys animation.
