Blender tutorial for game character?

In need of blender tutorial for game characters in unreal/unity

Not sure what to avoid in building a rig,
or how to start, what’s the general guideline.

There will be limited animations and loops for the characters.

Should it be planned first?
Or should it be rigged first?
Polygon count and texture ideas?

I look for guidance.:spin:

Polygon count and texture quality all depends on the target systems you are making the game for as well as your art style.

People are most familiar with consoles, so I will go by that.

Nintendo 64/PS1 - 250-700 Polygons - 32x32/64x64/128/128 pixel textures

Xbox/PS2 - 1000-2500 Polygons 128x128/256x256 pixel textures

Xbox 360/PS3 - 3500 - 15,000 256x256/512x512 pixel textures

Xbox One/PS4 - I honestly don’t even know, but it’s only slightly higher than the previous generation. 512x512/1024x1024/2048/2048 pixel textures

As for where to start when you model anything, start with the least intimidating part… Perhaps the head.

You can rig your character as long as it’s fully modeled.

Avoid unnecessary polygons/vertices and try to keep the character is low poly as possible while balancing visual appeal. You want the character to be as well optimized as possible to run better on the target system.

I hope I helped. : )
