adding scarf to model from blendswap

This skeleton is from blendswap. All I want to do is add a scarf, eyepatch and a pirate hat that I made to this exsisting model. I forgot how to do it. I could parent it to a head bone, but it never follows it correctly. I think I have to make the scarf part of a vertex group, and make it a part of the imported mesh…But I’m lost. Thanks for any help. Rachelle
