cycles not working

so i downloaded a tute called Blender Tutorial - Quick Rigid Body Fun

naturally it did not work for me- no surprise there.
what did i miss?
the coloured pic is how it is supposed to be.
i just want the pile of blocks falling forward and rolling to a stop on the plane.
must be simple for most of you!
thanks
PS don’t really want the wrecking ball

You do not have any rigid body dynamics set for the ball. Turn them on and also check the Animated box so that you can continue to control it.

how do i do that?
thanks .

Select the ball.
Go to the properties panel, usually it’s on the far right side of the screen. The last tab shows a bouncing ball, select that.
Select Rigid body. In the options that it opens, select animated. Now rerun your animation.

got it thanks
now how do i get the blocks fall forward.
i do not think the ball is actually doing anything.
HELP!!!

Attached is the file. All I did was activate the rigid body for the ball and now it interacts with the blocks. Sometimes if the scene is just playing it doesn’t update. You have to rewind to frame one and replay the scene to get it to recalculate.CYCLESFAILURE-2.blend (855 KB)

sending a blend file is a HUGE help.
i had several as softbody! i don’t know any batter!
how do i reduce the impact on the blocks?
eventually a hand will replace the sphere.
thanks VERY much Clock

how do i set the ground plane to stop things falling thru?
thanks

UHOH is this a cycles problem?
when i hit F12 i get this mess.
how do i make a video out of this!
thanks all

What I normally do is enable rigid body physics on the ground plane in the physics tab, set the type to “passive” and then set the shape to “box”.

thanks David, any idea on why F12 gives such an odd image?

Odd as in all the noise? To fix this you should increase the samples in the render tab and/or increase the size of your lights.

thanks david.
thought i used the same set up as in non cycles!
