Fire simulation and render layers

I have done a fire simulation and am having trouble rendering it. I have looked over different pages about how to render particles in blender cycles. It won’t render. I’m not sure what is set wrong in my scene.

I’m also going to put the fire on one render layer, and the planet on a different render layer and the ship on another render layer, but I don’t really understand setting up render layers either.

please close this thread.

One thing that you should know is that the word, “layer,” is very ambiguous in Blender parlance: it could mean any one of several different (and, totally unrelated) things.

This is the tutorial I found.
I want to have a render layer for the planet and the ship and the fire and composite the three 180 frame renders together.

Mostly I can not get the fire to render in cycles at all. That is my first problem to solve. I don’t know what is wrong with the settings in my scene.

Something finally rendered that is visible. but it doesn’t look like fire.

Half of this is solved. I know how to use render layers, scene layers, and visible layers.
I still don’t know why the fire isn’t rendering correctly.
