About pole targets

Hi, I would like to know what pole target armatures do, what they are for and why do you use them.
I came from Sebastian Lague’s video. He was showing how it works, but it only gave me a very vague idea of it.
If someone could explain to me themselves (I would prefer someone explaining it to me than having them give me a website to read, as I probably already read that and it’s just too confusing for a beginner like me) in deep detail (please explain it for a beginner to understand :D) how a “Pole Target” armature works, it will help me so much and then will be able to make my game.

Why’s nobody replying.

A pole target can be selected when you add an IK bone constraint to a hierarchy of bones (in pose mode)
With it you have control over the direction the bending of the IK chain goes.

For example a leg can be bent (animated) via IK , and with the pole target you can determine in which direction the knee points.

I don’t know whether you already know the concept of IK and how to set it up. If not, this would be the first to understand…
