@Helge
I was going to do something very similar before you posted your image (although not with a light coming out of the skylight like that) man, you made have to do so much more work :wink:

Just want to say I really loved your last competition entry, I could just imagine the little chubby astronaut looking out in despair as his strawberries floated away. It really was a brilliant take on the theme.

@Everyone
Oh just in case anyone is wondering, the distorted brickwork on my lighthouse is from the anti-gravity wave emitted from the UFO’s propulsion drive and not because I forgot to fix the UV’s :wink:

Was away all weekend, so I didn’t have a chance to compete. Just did this earlier today though. Based it on a stock image I found on Google. Rendered using Blender Render with all shading turned off. Took me about 20 minutes to create. There was some minor post-rendering work done in GIMP.

Enjoy doing the 3D work in Blender, but I just can’t resist a nice 2D one.

SIDE NOTE: Does anyone know why Blender Render added a white line between my scene objects and the background?

Tough decision but ended up going with the trend. Very nice vaguehorizon!

Sorry about that :slight_smile:
However, I don’t have the feeling that you are someone who runs the risk of running out of ideas!

Thanks. It was a rather fast approach on the topic and I wasn’t too happy with the result. I would have loved to put more time into that one. (The nights seem to get shorter and shorter from week to week now.)

@ComputerWhiz:
Nice to see you still found 20 minutes :slight_smile:
About the background: I have no idea… Is this a real ‘rendered’ background or is it transparency being replaced in compositing?

@All:
Great entries (as always)!
Did you notice that all of the single-beam-lighthouses send their light from left to right? I wonder what causes this? Is there anyone here who usually speaks/writes/reads a right-to-left language (like Arabic)? Maybe that has something to do with it…

That is certainly interesting! I also noticed that all the images of lighthouses I found online tended to face the opposite direction (right to left). I switched mine because I thought it would look more original… lol.

@fdo that’s some nice photo realism there!

My thought would be that theline is on the same plane as the one below it, even though that usually makes the triangles show up… But maybe if you used a bezier then I’m not so sure.

About photorealism… I took a quick glance on pictures before doing the lighthouse, but AFTER I was done I found the same lighthouse in a MUCH bigger picture, with a lot of details :(. Should have searched a little bit more.

This is how the lighthouse looked on the photo I found (My lighthouse you can see above, so no need to post that again).

And… the winner of Weekend Challenge 721 with 47.62% of the votes is… vaguehorizon!

Cold Climb on a Sunny Day

Oh wow! That is such a nice thing to say, Thank you so much Helge :slight_smile: But obviously I can’t take all the credit for ‘my’ ideas, as all of you have been so gracious in providing me with an abundance of material to draw from. :smiley:
