VSE Problems with compressed videos?

Good day,

I did some screen capturing with the standard Windows 10 tool. It delivers a small sized (compressed) mp4 file. However when I try to edit the video in VSE, it always works very slow (for example moving to another frame or rewinding )
On the other side when i use fraps (a Screen capture tool that saves the Videos uncompressed) everything works nice and smooth. But the file sizes are very large (GBs). So i used another tool and compressed them. When I try to edit them in the VSE, I have the same issues as mentioned above.
Does the VSE have “problems” with compressed video files? Or is there a way to fix this problem so that I can work with compressed Videos nice and smooth?

Thanks in advance.

The VSE does not like heavily compressed files. Sorry. You can make Proxies and edit with them instead (they are faster), the proxies will be turned off for the final render.

Ok :frowning: Thanks for clearifying.
