Quick and cheaty way to implement a sunshaft?

What would a quick and cheap way to implement something like a sun shaft emitting from a window, lined up roughly with a spotlight aimed at the floor? I’ve tried slabbing a material/texture on a plane but that didn’t work, the plane just goes pure black and doesn’t show the texture, even though the texture has an alpha channel and all. It’s very strange.


Make sure you set the material to shadeless, and probably to alpha type ‘add’

Ah, that got it! I duplicated the plane a few times and rotated it around, so it wasn’t clearly a 2D plane as the camera moved around. Thank you!
