bexier problems in 2.69

how do i make picture frames with sharp corners.
bezier and extrude does not seem to be the correct way!

Properties Editor > Bezier Curve > Resolution Preview U: set to 1

a few changes, spline type should be poly instead of bezier (or use vector handles to get sharp edges using V key when editing spline with the point you want to change) make your paths in the XY plane and turn on Z-up for twist method to avoid weird twisting in your path.

here’s your blend updated with those changes. also made duplicated one of your paths and placed the bevel object in a more useful location to understand how it’s effecting the shape.testframe.blend (490 KB)
