Modeling a head

There seems to be a couple of ways of doing this and I was wondering which you guys think is best and why. Either sculpting it, or you get a photo and extrude vertices (maybe others?).

I love sculpting, i can do it all day, but when it comes to ears, or creases in the eyelids, I struggle with detail, so I guess I was curious if that is why some people prefer the extruding method.

I think its all just personal preference in your workflow, and what your end project is. If you’re modeling for a video game it might be useful to approach it from a geometrical modeling perspective to keep your poly count low. But of course you can retopologize later if you sculpt your models. Maybe try mixing both together so you can get those ears nice, but still have the lovely sculpting benefits too.
