How to create this in blender

Good day. I’m sure someone has asked this question before and if that’s the case I’m sorry and please redirect me to the correct thread.

Coming from a C4D motion graphics background I’m trying to make a project that requires rigid body physics/collisions on a per particle basis. Basically I’m trying to recreate this effect:

From 07:40 - 10:00.

I’ve seen tutorials of people creating an emmiter and making the particle duplicates real and applying the rigid bodies,
which is completely not practical. (see the rest of the tutorial) this tutorial requires particles that are generated inside a volume one after the other from an emitter.

If it’s not currently possible how then can I fake it in blender and are this particle physics even a priority? I’m hearing a lot of noise about 2.8 and the wonders that are coming… I just want proper particle physics.

The new animation nodes updates I’m seeing on twitter and youtube, pretty much have everything we need (and ALOT more simplified from the current AN) from C4D’s mograph, just particles seem an issue.
Please and thank you.

You could try using the Copy Particles to Rigid Body addon. I think it is included in 2.78.

Hej Kotskie … i very often use this way:

1st. making the basics using cinema 4d
2nd. export to blender … via fbx format
3rd. and so on … i use both softwares …

blender is an overwhelming tool for particle animation
i use cinema since i was born … amiga age …

best, stef

I tried emulating this using a regular particle emitter with - Z velocity, gravity off, and a magnetic self field applied using negative strength, all inside a collision box. Its close, but the particles don’t really collide with one another and its not convincing rigid body physics. I haven’t used it, but the addon AlanK suggested is worth looking into.

Not in front of Blender at the moment, but you might try Fluid type in the particle system’s Physics tab. You’ll have to play around a lot with the settings, but give it a go.

Sadly, I have not read anything about any improvement on this planned for Blender 2.8.

Is Molecular addon useful for you?

By the way, I’d like to know about how the hell people can display GIF directly embedded in the forum :eyebrowlift2:
