Macro Photographs

Hey guys… I just discovered a really neat way to take macro photographs with my digital camera… you can read a tutorial here:

or you can see some of my examples on my “Art” page, under the “Macro Photography” heading.

Hmm, that sound like an interesting idea. Your gallery has some excellent images. I have to wonder how difficult it is to hold the magnifying glass still while shooting the photograph.

Well, I don’t use my camera all that much but I wanted to do some macro photography a while ago and had some trouble so I looked into it again. Sure enough you’re absolutely right. Here’s an image I just captured.

I ws trying to get the two little yellow leaves to the right of center. Even with manual focus they still show up blurred. Trouble is I had to pull the branch down to get the leaves into view so for this attempt I’d need another hand. I guess I could probably buy another lens for the same effect but, of course, the camera doesn’t get used that much. (It does but not for extreme close ups and nothing professional.) There just happens to be a giant magnifying glass laying around here so might as well give it a try and

it works. Still not as good as a real lens but could be worse. Some light was reflecting off the glass and I had some trouble figuring out how much distance should go between the objects. Not bad though.

I kept the lens still by actually holding it against the face of the camera.

Ah, that fixes the back flash too. The magnifying glass is about 5 times bigger than 3x optical zoom lens so it seems the magnification’s going to be a little less. Distortion isn’t a problem though, as you mentioned in your tut. Does work though, got a close of the threads on my jeans.

Another try. Not as successful this time really. A little bit improvement but not much. These images are kind of interesting though. This one is of a patch of sand.

you gotta love macros:

@ner, is that shot taken with a real macro lens?

Here’s a non-nature shot:

I have Canon A75, not the most expensive professional camera, but I like it, and it has this macro-mode, which I’ve been using quite a bit… it let’s you in really close…

here’s couple of shots.

my son (3 years old) set up this scenery, where cars line up and honk each other, while micky has (for some reason) been killed by an egg:

so I focused on micky mouse.

here’s just a close up of small toy car on table:

Wow! The toy car is larger than life! You should edit a photo of your son into it so it looks like he’s standing next to it, he’d love that. Those are amazing photos for a built-in macro feature.

Interesing idea!

My camera has a super macro mode which means I can get as close as 4cm to the subject, but I can’t use the 3x optical zoom at this range.

I’m sure I have a magnifying glass somewhere, so I may try super macro mode + magnifying glass!

I guess having the camera on a tripod will help a lot.
