Subtract Shaders

Does anybody know why this setup from the thread below doesn’t work the same on 2.7x versions of blender?
Has anything related changed that makes those values wrong on newer versions?

Make sure the the Glossy nodes really are set to Beckmann (not GGX or something else).

I created that node group - and it works with all glossy types except sharp (GGX, Akima etc) - it even works with the anisotropic and glass nodes.

The effect with GGX setting is very subtle though.
