merry go round bulb with caustics in cycles

Hi to all and thank you for let me come in this group!
I am trying to make a Adv Light sign with merry go round lights like this

it’s very hard to achieve this result! can you help me?! I would like to use Cycles
Thanks

Unidirectional path tracers like Cycles are not good at scenes like this - lighting through a refractive material essentially leads to lighting your entire scene with caustics.

You should look at a render engine that has a bidirectional path tracer and/or metropolis light transport.

might be easier to do using Yafaray or Luxrender

If you want to do this in Cycles within a halfway reasonable amount of time, you will have to cheat by increasing the size of the “filament” within the bulbs - of course this will totally soften out your caustics and still take a significant amount of samples to render…

This e. g. is 5000 samples and it’s still quite grainy:

And as I said, the caustics are blurrier and and not in the same shape as in your image (might have been more careful when modeling the bulb, though). But perhaps that’s good enough?

Anyway, other render engines can deal with those kinds of scenes much better (and much quicker), e. g. LuxRender (as already stated above) or Thea.

Hi Tumitu,

Maybe this add-on will help you https://www.blendernation.com/2016/03/17/blender-market-prism-fast-realistic-glass-shader-cycles/.
