Rock solid entries

This week’s topic was kind of different: it was more about how than what.

@fdo, I like your cave scene, got my vote. how did you do the god rays?

EDIT 1:

fcharr I’m starting to think you are just enjoying toying with my emotions now! Just when I thought I wasn’t ever going to speak to you again, you go and say something like that and pull me right back in.

I can only imagine the people in your life must feel like they are on a constant emotional roller coaster ride with you.

You are in serious danger of me trying to kiss you again! Actually too late:

I think this “how” to which you are referring is simply the result of us all choosing to actually interact with each other instead of just treating this forum like a dumping ground for our images. rarebit and I may disagree on a lot of things but that is most definitely not one of them.

While I personally didn’t agree with the implication rarebit’s opening statement made in the previous thread (can’t even say it because of the silly rule book), I was still pretty annoyed at Fweeb’s intervention and his statement:

‘Please don’t be telling people around here to do that!’ was all I was really thinking, well perhaps not those exact words.

I think everyone here should feel free to talk about whatever they want to, especially if they have taken the time to create an image for the challenge.

Anyway, I could go on and on but seeing as I didn’t enter this week I’ll keep it short

All the best,
Damien

Oh! If anyone feels the need to PM me about anything then please do so, and if I can I will answer them honestly.

Moderate Indonesia caning again…!

A little bit of that, and a little bit of the Japanese art.

i tried a volumetric approach, but rendertime was very bad so i switched to a simple texture on a plane that i duplicated

I know I said I’d keep it short but I really do also want to share my thoughts on robwesseling’s image. To me his image, along with the title, I think represented the situation perfectly. i.e. it seems to me like when he created his image he was more on the rock side of things, but then changed his mind and created a title to try and express that. At least that’s my interpretation of it.

That to me is a perfect result! I think people’s opinions on Rocks and God Rays should be flipping from one to the other.

I’m sure some of you are probably kicking yourselves for not thinking about doing something like that. For me I also thought about doing an animated GIF image but like I said I really couldn’t concentrate this time around.

There is lots more I would like to say, I honestly think I could probably write an entire book on all of this. I mean come on, I even managed to get a little boot stomping action of my own, that was very therapeutic

Well I guess if nobody else wants to share there thoughts on this WC session then I guess my conclusions are, some people are probably feeling a little angry, concerned, and perhaps maybe just want to stay out of it all now.

I honestly really can’t tell unless you actually say something!

All the best,
Damien

Here’s an eighties classic for you… 30 years old this year…

@Helge is your rock texture procedural?
If so, how did you make it?

I have the feeling I missed a discussion and missed probably the meaning of rocks nd godrays. Is there something more behind that title than I think? I really was just thinking about rock nd godrays literally. I let the rocks float in the air, so some light could shine through. And that result was like the rocks are in movement collapsing (on me). In my fantasy godrays appeared to give me a last message that there was something more in life we usually don’t see.

You are right, all textures are procedural this time. I think the most important factor is the true displacement I used for the rocks:

But as it was about 3 or 4 in the morning when I did this - things may be a little half-baked.

Can someone do something about the weather please

I’m trying to rarebit, but I don’t think the weather will ever really get better around here until everyone has an animal role in your movie.
