Trying to simulate a bucket of paint being thrown on the floor

Here is a video of what I have so far:

Note that I would use smooth shading in the final version, flat is just easier to see while working on it.

What I am trying to fix is:

  • the jagged grid-like splatters on the floor,
  • and the strange movements on the top surface of the fluid when it settles at the end of the video.
