and this code (from GitHub):
// number of sides of rope - must be a divisor of 360
Sides=5;
// step size in degrees
Step=2;
// rope radius
R=0.05;
// overall scale
Scale=20;
// depth of undulation
B=0.1;
// link rotation % of cycle 0.25 disjoint , 0 joint
p= 0.25;
/* 1 + 5 loops, rotated at increments of 72 degress at an inclination of 60 degrees

Openscad, doesn’t seem to support exporting color models.
I figured I’d just export it and add the color in Blender (2.78c Linux x64)
At lower settings it worked. I tried denser settings more consistent with
some of the images shown (tumblr).
Ordinarily - Edit Mode - P works.
In this case, it hasn’t for me. And I’ve tried several versions of the model:
OBJ, PLY, WRL, STL.
Shift-G isn’t helping either.
I’ve left a note on GitHub seeing if there’s a way to fix it progammatically
in OpenSCAD.
Is there a Blender fix for this? Nothing I’ve been able to think of and tried
has worked.

I think I can be of help to you as I am knowlegable about both Blender and OpenSCAD, but I’m not totally understanding what you are are trying to do. Are you trying to separate the individual rings of the mesh to separate objects in blender? Or are you trying to up the resolution of the design?
