Texturing 101

I am building the Chernobyl reactor hall in blender, and I want to texture the floor a dark metal and the maintenance covers to the steam pipes a shiny reflective metal.

I’ve watched tutorials on how to do this, but the texture doesn’t get added to the mesh I want.

More infos would be great, maybe a blend file? Node set-up? How is it unwrapped?

Activate the “use nodes” check-box for any Material you made and start building up the material you like. As far as I can see everything is just a grey-ish diffuse colour and nothing else.
