Alpha textures using the new "Principled" nodeset

Title pretty much says it all. I was wondering if it’s possible and what steps do I have to go about doing so?

(currently using the 2.78.5 test build if anyone’s wondering)

you set it up as you would with any other materials. Mix node, Transparent, and boom done.

unless the principle shader has a transparency thingy.

actually it has (Transmission), and there is also a IOR socket where 0 value should be mapped to ior = 1, so connecting a B/W mask to it you should be able to make transparence even with glass (never tried though).

dont misstake transmission with transparent. those two are very different.

If you put IOR to 1 you should get plain transparence, at least that’s how other engines work.
Perhaps in cycles you have to tweak roughness/specularity, I don’t know.
